"My mental health story started back when I was twelve years old. There was nothing significant that happened, or at least that I remember, but I found myself crying every day, being unable to enjoy things and eventually fantasizing about ending my life. Though I didn’t have words for it back then, that was my very first experience with depression.

I sought help when I was twenty. Between that and my first depressive episode had been eight years battling with my mind. There were a lot of good seasons too - some as long as a year - but when I finally found help, I was in a really bad shape mentally. I got diagnosed with anxiety disorder, panic disorder and recurrent depressive disorder. Thought at first, I was in shock, it was actually a relief to get diagnosed. To me it meant that this didn’t have to be a constant state of things but rather that now I could actually get the help and support I needed.

I’ve just started my fourth year in therapy. I ate anti-anxiety drugs for three years and I’m currently eating antidepressants, because another depressive episode crept on me in the spring. I’m very open about my journey online. I wish to talk about mental health and spread awareness because of the twelve-year-old me. That little girl was so scared, and she had no one to look up to - I hope to be that person to somebody.''

''I don’t think I would have made it without all the amazing professionals during the past years. Sometimes we think that we’re not ’unwell enough’ to deserve help, but I urge you seek help before you hit rock bottom. Day to day life should not feel heavy.

I still have a lot of work ahead of me, but I’m feeling a thousand times better than when starting this journey. There are still times when I think nothing will ever get better and, in those moments, I have to remind myself that nothing is permanent. I get peace in knowing that everything eventually passes.

It’s so important to talk about mental health. We need to understand that no matter the situation everyone deserves help. I love the way Brave Together works to end the stigma around mental health issues. I am very proud to be an ambassador for a cause that actually makes a difference.''
